Glad today is over...

...at least where work is concerned. After three days of stocktake, I am seriously over it. At least I was able to get it completed, though. Thank goodness. Wouldn't have been able to without the help of one of my work colleagues, though. She was very helpful.
Now to work out what I am going to knit. Am bored with all the things I currently have on the needles, which is bad I know. I am not supposed to start something new, but I can hear shawls calling out to me. Don't know which one just yet, but I know it's there.

Long time no post

Cripes, has it been that long since I last posted here?!?!? Wow, time goes fast!!!
I am now a grandmother, of a really cute grandson. Will be again in a couple of weeks, too, with second grandson due then.
Been not very busy on the knitting front, lost a little interest. Need to get back in to it. Especially with two little ones to knit for. Am trying really hard to get things finished that have been on the needles for quite some time. That is an ongoing issue with me. Will be all the time, I think. Too many nice patterns to do, and not any where enough time to do them all. Stash isn't really shrinking, though. You'd think it would after all this time. I am quite convinced that it grows all by itself.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

and I don't feel like I have achieved much on the knitting front. Still working on hubby's vest, it's knitted in the round, until you get to the armholes. Finished the back part, am now working on the front. At least I know it will be finished before next winter, thank goodness. Then I really must look at the other UFO's I have. Gotta find the patterns that go with them, as well.

Am pretty much set, and nearly ready for tomorrow. The meat is cooked, and in the fridge, the salads won't get made until tomorrow - I want them as fresh as possible. Need to cook the potatoes, and boil some eggs, which won't take long, really. Am waiting for son and his partner to arrive, should be here soonish, I hope. Presents are under the tree, and the cat is leaving them alone, for which I am grateful.
We are having subway for dinner tonight, don't really want to create any more dishes than we have too. Am looking forward to tomorrow, actually. Not so much the next day, because I have to work!! Ahh well, someone has to do it.
Hope anyone reading this has a good day, and is able to create good memories.

After nearly two weeks without any internet - or any with much speed - we are finally back up and running!!! What a relief!!! Now I can start posting again, well, hoping to post again.
I did finish a baby blanket, but forgot to take a photo of it. I was very happy with the finished product. I made it for a friend, who's daughter is having a baby - any day now!!!
Now I'm working on a vest - in the round - for hubby. This has been hiding, and paitently waiting for me for a few months, now. I need to show him, I can make something for him.

Baking Day

I've been baking for most of the day, today. Did four different muffins, a banana cake, and a bacon and egg pie. Didn't actually feel like having dinner cooking today, as I was using the oven pretty much all afternoon. I enjoy baking, not cooking so much, but baking, yes.
All this is for the team at work tomorrow. I hope they enjoy what I have to offer.

Started at 12pm, and finished at 12:15am. It was manic!!! A discount day, so half price on all childrens clothing. Talk about busy!! We had all three registers going, and three packers!!! It went quiet about 10:30ish. Not totally dead, but a lot quieter. And we have another late one next week. I am looking forward to my Friday's off, I tell you. At least I am still able to do my knitting, I find that quite relaxing.

It was "Julie and Julia". I really enjoyed it. I like the way they blended two true stories. It is one I will have to get, I can see I will watch this movie again. I don't think I could go through a whole recipe book like that, let alone cook all those receipes!! I'm not that great a cook, and probably not dedicated enough to try something like that. I'm having enough trouble going through my knitting books. I don't have thoughts of going through a whole book, well . . . I have, but not seriously enough.

Seems to be a habit of mine. I just keep forgetting to update things here. I am STILL recovering from this horrible cough, they call it the 90-day cough, and I can well believe that it will hang around that long. Just when I think I've finally shaken it, I start up with the coughing again - I REALLY don't like this winter.
Anyhow, I really wanted to write about a new to me yarn that I am working with - just a simple scarf mind you, but it is really quite kewl looking. It's called 'Moda Vera Millefoglie', and is made up of 56% Acrylic, 38% Polyamide/Nylon, 5% Virgin Wool, and 1% Polyster Metalic. I am using 7.5mm needles, and 20sts, and it is coming out quite interesting. It is actually different sections of yarn, so you get to change yarns, without having to get another ball. I know what I'm trying to say, just not coming out right.
I'm gonna get my hair coloured today. My sister is coming up this afternoon to do it. I'm getting a red brown put through it. Don't know how it will look, I'm just trying to cover up the grey. I don't have too much of it, but enough to where I wanna stay coloured just a little longer - crikey I'm only 49!!! lol

What a day at work!!!! The tills were down all day through most of the shop. There were only three tills operating, and they were over at the other end of the shop. In our department, we also didn't have a computer, which is a real pain. Our MFC got rather wet on saturday, and it is now fried - totally. We depend on that, too. You dont realise just how much, until you dont have it to use. Because we werent able to put sales through, you would have thought I could get my jobs done - not on your nellie!!! I think I only got two jobs completed, and thats because I ended up directig people through to the other side, where the working tills were. We dont even know if things will be up and running tomorrow - lets hope they are. Two days in a row, like today, is NOT good!!!

I have one main resolution this year, and that is to try to write here more often. I have sadly neglected this little on line diary, and hope to do better this year. I dont lead a particularly exciting life, and am not really very good with words,but I will try. I always have a good post written in my head, but, sadly, it never seems to make it any further. Of course, part of that is because I put my own inflection to the words, and know how I want it to sound, but, once you actually write it down, it can come out sounding completely differently.
I have already started the New Year off well, when it comes to FO's. I've actually completed two bookmarks, adn both used cotton from my small stash of cotton. I do have a good sized stash, but not when it comes to cotton, that is exceedingly small. Quite disappointing, actually. That is one of my other resolutions, to try to use more of my stash - not that I WONT be buying more, but, I will try to be more fussy - if that's the right word to use; or should it be picky? I may not always have a project in mind, but that has never been a problem, the project comes in time. Sometimes, quite a bit of time passes, but hey, I'm not in any hurry.

The bride was beautiful, with long loose curls, her hair down and blowing in the wind that was getting up. She was holding hand of her little seven year old cousin, (actually her cousins 7yo daughter), and was carrying a small bouquet of flowers. She was wearing a red dress, with a smoky blue coat. Both were in the Medieval style. Her father was walking right alongside her, in his costume, and he was very good looking. He looked a bit like Henry VIII!
The groom took one look at this beautiful vision walking towards him, and the tears started. He looked very good in his knights costume, with a court jester by his side, and three knights standing in attendance.
The bride was attended by her senior bridesmaid, who wore a blue dress, with red ribbon, and carrying a small bouquet of white roses.Then another bridesmaid, also in blue, with red ribbon, and also carrying white roses. There were also two flower girls, dressed in red, and also carrying white roses. One of the flower girls was holding the brides hand, and other was leading the bridal party. The music was Westlife, Flying without wings.
The guests were dressed in costume, as requested by the bride. There were a few that weren't able to dress up, but those that did looked really good. The ceremony was touching, and not too long. The photos were all outside, among the grape vines, and the bride shone through it all.

Counting Down

Only four more days to the wedding of my daughter, and I still have to get my dress finished. Why am I not sewing now you ask; because I was taking tissue paper out of line of stitching. I've sewn braid onto a lacy fabric, which is for the bottom part of the sleeves. Because the lace is so fine,I used tissue paper, to give the needle something to 'grip'. It's worked really well, too; I just needed to gently rip it out. Now the second sleeve to do, then attach them to the upper sleeve, and the hem, and the dress is finished - this is the last bridesmaids dress. Then it's on to my dress, which only has the front bodice part done. At least I've done all the interfacing, though.

I know, I'm talking to myself - a habit I got into a long time ago. LOL
Today, I hope to spend most of the day sewing. I really need to concentrate on the dresses for the wedding, and then I can also concentrate on my own dress. Sad to say, the housework is suffering somewhat while I do the sewing. I have to find the time to do everything. Not enough hours in the day.

I tried this last night, but it didn't work. Lets hope it goes through today. I have a new look - short hair. I've had it all pretty much all cut off, and really like the new look. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but I really don't regret getting it done. I will get a picture taken later today, and see about getting it up here.
On the knitting front, I've now finished three cloths in the last three days. Am now working on a hooded scarf from the Lionbrand website. I've also taken some things off the needles, just decided that I really wasn't that into them. Others, that are still languishing will be attended to sometime. Part of their problem, I dont know where I've put their pattern. I'm sure I will be able to track them down, though. Then, maybe, I will have most of my needles back.

It has been decided that this bloh of mine isn't a spam one after all. I am very grateful for that. I was a tad concerned about whether I'd ever be able to post anything.
I'm actually going through a scarf knitting stage at the moment, encouraged by the cold weather. The scarf I have on the needles at the moment is one done with two sizes of needles. The needles I am using are 5mm, and 12mm. It is done in garter stitch, and you do a whole row of one set of needles, and a whole row in the other size. It makes the scarf look lacy, without the work involved. You can really use any wool, any needles.

I recently finished somehing, but have to , reknit it, because I must have missed something in the casting off', as it is starting to unravel. The horrible thing? This was knitted on 15mm needles, in feathers like yarn, AND eyelash type of yarn. I DO NOT want to redo this, but know I have to. Instead, in disgust, I've gone and started the log cabin blanket from the Mason Dixon Knitting book. I will actually post a picture of my 'mess' before fixing the silly thing. It loked so nice, too!!

I thought a post was well overdue. I've actually still got photos that I need to get organised, and loaded up here. Since starting work, I've not had a lot of time to post, or to do much of anything else for that matter. I'm STILL trying to get more organised - not an easy thing to do for someone who isn't really an organised person!!
Even my knitting has be languishing, but that is changing. I'm doing it for about ten minutes before heading off to work, and sometimes, but not often, in the evening. I think thats why my stole had mistakes in it, because I had left it for too long, and it was feeling very left out. Mistakes are fixed, and we are back on speaking terms again - I've promised I wont leave it for so long again - unless I get distracted by something else - not that I told the stole that!!!
My job has changed. I'm now a One on One sales person. Which means I get a commission on certain things that I sell. Its more pressure, because you have to meet a sales target each day, and I've only met it once this week, yesterday being a REALLY quiet day. Actually, so was Monday. I like the department I am in now, though, the day goes really fast there. It is the furniture, and small appliances department. More paperwork, you also get to spend a little more time with customers - hence the One on One title.
Anway, I must away. Gotta get dressed, do some shopping - wool shopping that is - and other boring things to do.

A boring post

Nothing very interesting in this post, just thought I should write something. I'm working part time, now, and have been doing more hours because of it being so close to Christmas - the silly season shoppers wise. We are gearing up for the big Card Holders sale on 6th Dec, which means we will be open until midnight. Ive pulled the late shift - starting at 11am, and finish at 12am. We get to have strawberries, ice cream and cherries as a reward. The cherries will be fresh, as they are just starting to sell some now, and the strawberries should also be fresh. We are also allowed to 'dress up' in something Christmassy (sp?). I've got a santa hat, and need something else - my sister has a red santa jacket thingy, hopefully I will fit it.
We have our end of year work function tomorrow night, and will be wearing a mask, and there will also be kareoke. Dont think I will be singing, though - I cant sing to save myself!!!
My daughter has gotten engaged, which is really great news. They have set the date for 15th November, next year. I want to lose some weight before the wedding - not too much, but something. I've already started to change my eating habits, and have some exercises printed off that I really need to get started on. Natasha is already writing a list of what they need to do, and get, for the wedding.
Ahh well, I did say this wasn't a very interesting post. I need to head off to bed, it's early I know, but I'm tired, and have work tomorrow. I need a good nights sleep.

A rather boring post

This isn't much of a post. I'm just checking in on my own blog. I got me a new laptop, and having fun being able to go online without having to wait for the PC being free. I'm still keeping things on the PC, if only because this isn't set up to a printer, yet. That will probably be next on the list.
I'm also STILL getting used to Ravelry. I'm not too sure if I really want to own up to the stash I have. It's not even organised, a lot of it is still in plastic bags. AND, it's still all over the floor, BUT, NOT, in the lounge any more - at least, not ALL of it. I think my patterns are more organised than my wool, and so are my books. But they are easy to get into order. LOL

I finally have my camera back, and have a couple of pictures on it to post here. These are of the 'Aran Weight Victorian Lace Shawl' from the Elann free patterns. I did this for my sister - who is modelling it for me. I did it in a lighter weight wool than that required in the pattern, but stayed with the same needles. I LOVE the way it has come out, and want one for me. I've got some Caressa that I'm seriously thinking of using for this pattern.

I've actually got some pictures to add here, once I get my camera back. I finished my MS3, and have blocked it as well. I've also got some pictures of the Aran weight Lace Shawl I made for my sister. But that has to wait until I get my camera back off my daughter. I actually can't remember what other pics are on that camera, will have to see once it is returned.
I'm now a working woman, having acquired a part-time job. I've only done two days, and already am doing extra!! They have a card-holders day on Thursday, and I'll be working all day then. Guess that will be good for me, because it will bring me up to speed real quick. Hope I cope alright.

Here is a picture of my daughter on the occasion of her 23rd birthday, which was on Sunday. I did the usual, and cooked up a special birthday dinner, which consisted of chicken, with whole lemons inside - her favourite way of having chicken. We also had roast potatoes, done the way Natasha likes them - crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. For dessert, we had fudge brownies, with whipped cream, and chocolate pieces added on top of the cream. All this is something we DON'T eat too often - thank goodness. Natasha and Tony, her boyfriend, came home for dinner. Tony had taken her to Wellington for the weekend, as his present to her.

This took forever

Or, at least, it felt like it took forever. Towards the end, each round was taking me AT LEAST 5mins to complete. There are 29 rounds to this table topper. I called it a doily in an earlier post, but I was mistaken. It is clearly NOT a doily, but instead, a table topper. I love the pattern, but am not sure if I would do it again. I got the pattern from a Crochet Monthly magazine that I get. I have blocked it as much as I can just for the picture. Need to do it a bit more, just to get it to spread out better.

MS3 Clue 4 done

I have finally finished Clue 4 of MS3. The reason it has taken me so long is because I've also been doing a pineapple doily - in crochet. I'm still working on the doily, and am only a few rounds from the finish, but, of course, it is taking longer to do each round. So, I take a break from it, by doing the stole, and I take a break from the stole by working on the doily. And dishcloths.

Anyway, here is a picture of my clue 4. It's not blocked, or anything. Just hanging from the back of our couch. I can't show the whole length of the stole, because it is too long, now. Not a very good picture, but will try to do better next time. Now on to clue 5, and the wing!!!!

The smallest cloth I have ever done

I know, two days in a row!!!! BUT, I have a picture, actually a couple of pictures, of the smallest cloth I have EVER knitted. This little masterpiece was knitted in very fine cotton - the sort you usually use for doilies - and on 2.25mm needles. I hav deliberately left the ends unweaved, just so you can see how thin the cotton I used, is. It DOES actually have a little heart in the middle. Next time, I will use even smaller needles - maybe even bamboo skewers.

Some cloths

In between doing the MS3, I've been working on some cloths. They are quick, easy, and a nice break when you have had to visit the frog-pond AGAIN, for the second time!!! Completely ripped out the blue stole I was working on, it was too floppy. So, before casting on AGAIN, I decided to take a break and do these cloths.

This is called June 3 Cloth by Jo Winslow, and is crocheted. I did it with one stand of a blue/white thin, cotton, with one strand of jute. I like it, and have only just realised, how the colours slant - never noticed it before.

This one, which doesn't show up very well, is called Ridged Openwork cloth, by Jo Schubert. It is knitted, in a lovely pale blue, which is lightly variegated with other shades of blue.

And now for the last photo. This is a Kiwi cloth, by Susan Brewer. I knitted this one today, and it is in a pale orange cotton. I LOVE this cloth - being a Kiwi myself - as we New Zealanders are called.

Now back to my stole - the cream version without the beads. AFTER I finish the bag I'm knitting. Or as a break from the bag. Hey, they could end up being a break from each other!! Until the Harry Potter book comes out on Saturday, anyway. Then ALL knitting is on hold until AFTER I finish the book. Could be looking at an all-nighter here.

I have joined, and started the stole from the above yahoo group. I have finished chart A, and chart B, and here are the results. Of course, it will look much better once it is blocked, but that needs to wait. The wool is unknown. It is on a good size cone, with no labels. I got it from a local second-hand shop. It is thin, and I am using 4mm needles. I am enjoying knitting this up, and seeing what the pattern will become.

You know how we are told to accessorise? Well. . . I do, but, not the way most people think of accessories. Mine are my scarves. I have a goodly collection - actually, I have more than I thought I did. I find scarves another good way of testing a pattern, a yarn, a combination of colours, and they are sooooooooo easy to whip up.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of all the scarves I have in my collection. The pictures aren't the best, because it is a dull, cloudy day over here.

Actually, that is a picture of me!!!!!!!!!! lol Wasn't meant to add that here, but will keep it anyway. Now you know what I look like!!! On to the scarves.

These particular scarves are made from various wools. There is even a sock scarf in there. It's the one between the brown, and the one on the end. The second scarf. It was fun to make.

Another three scarves done with some fancy yarn. All three were done on biggish neeldes, from 8mm up to 15mm.

And now for the last picture. These four are my latest creations. Well...except for the yellow/multi coloured one, that was finished ages ago, but just got it's ends sewn in today.

The green one, and the brown - the one next to the yellow scarf - were both done with Moda Vera Butterfly. The green one was done on 6.5mm needles, with a drop stitch. The brown was done on 15mm needles. The other scarf, and the picture does it NO justice, is made from recycled silk fabric, which has been spun. I did it on 6.5mm needles, and a 1x1 rib. The yellow one is the multi-directional diagonal scarf from Iris Schreier's book Modular Knits.

Enforced knitting time

I have been forced to stay off my feet for a few days, so am using that time to try and get some of my UFO's under control. They are ALL clamouring for me to work on them, but I only have two arms!!!! It is winter over here, and there are weather warnings out due to the heavy frosts we are experiencing at the moment. These frosts are so heavy, peoples car doors are freezing shut!!! On my way to KITE, (where I do my computer course), yesterday morning, I fell on a patch of ice. Yes, I was walking, because KITE is only a five minute walk from here. Anyway, I have done minor damage to my right knee, which means crutches, and rest. Good thing we are onto the last week of this semester, and have a weeks break before going back for more.
I have come to the conclusion that you CAN have too many WIP's. This is more so if you have something on the needles - in really hairy mohair - BUT you don't have the pattern to match, AND you don't even know WHERE the pattern is - not good!!! Try unpicking REALLY hairy mohair - or even contemplating frogging it - brings on nightmares I tell you. Today, I found the pattern to match my mohair creation, and will have sweet dreams of how it will look when finished. I need more bags, to keep pattern AND WIP together. One for each WIP, or UFO, whichever may be the case. That's a few more bags I need - AT LEAST eight more. Hmm. . . is that a sign I have too many?!?!?
I HAVE finished something, though. It's a scarf. Out of recycled silk material. I knitted it on 10mm needles in a 1x1 rib. Have been wearing it since I finished it. Should really get a picture taken. At least this didn't need blocking, and I'm sure it is getting longer everytime I wear it!!! LOL

I've finished something else, and am feeling pretty good, because I actually didn't let myself get too distracted by other patterns - either those I already have on the needles, or those I've printed off over the last few days - and goodness knows, I've printed off a fair few patterns over the last few days!!! I really need to live forever, just to be able to knit, or crochet, all the patterns I want to do, AND to use up my ever growing stash.

Anyway, here is a picture of the cardigan. The flash has made the colour look brighter than it really is.
I got the pattern from the October 2006 English Woman's Weekly Home Series Magazine. This magazine also has some cute mice to knit - called Alan Dart - Dickensian mice.

Started ANOTHER project

This is a square made from leftover sock yarn, and it's knit in the round - as round as a square can be!! lol Can't remember the link at the moment, but will go look for it, and add it here, later. I really need to get some of these mounting WIP's and UFO's complete!!! It's not easy being good and NOT starting anything new!!! lol

Crikey, I didn't realise it had been that long since I last posted here!!! I am NOT a very good blogger, am I? I do actually have some pictures to add, when I get them taken!! lol I've actually just started a modular crochet scarf, what an interesting pattern!!! It's from the Spring Interweave Crochet magazine, that I just got today. I know, it's a magazine with patterns for Spring, and here we are, heading into Winter!! But I like the patterns, and LOVE looking forward. Lets see just how long this takes to make.

Some UFO's to report

I must say, I like this new setup, it makes things so much easier! Anyway after such a long time of not posting here, I have some UFO's to report.

First is a pair of socks that are going to be winging their way to New Orleans next week.

This next pair are ones I made for my sister. They were quick to make, because they are only ankle type ones. BTW, Laurel is actually modelling both pair of socks.

Here are a couple of pictures of my PI shawl, as taken from the book 'The Best of Knitters magazine shawls and scarves'. I did one less diamond round than in the pattern, because I was running out of wool. The wool I used is a 4-ply Perendale - it's 4-ply for here in New Zealand. I picked up the wool from a local second-hand shop. It was on a cone, and I fell inlove with the colour right away. I am really happy with the way this has turned out. The pictures have been taken with the shawl on my bed.

I'm actually pleased with myself. This shawl only took me about three/four months from start to finish - and that was with other projects being worked on as well. I have made this for a friend's daughter, and it will be winging it's way to Ireland shortly.

This picture makes it look a little longer than it really is, but it is the best I could do. I used a 100% Acrylic yarn called Patons Tasman. I used 5 100g balls. The pattern was a Peter Gregory one - and English pattern. Really easy to do, and it allowed for either 4ply, or DK, and had the figures for both. The Tasman is a DK yarn, and I did it on 4.5mm needles - to get a slightly softer look, and feel to the pattern.

A late update

This is an angel bookmark that I did. I tweaked the pattern a little, to get the body centered on the head.

I thought I'd try and see if I can upload some pictures of work I've been doing recently. I did try a few days ago, but had no luck, so am hoping things work out this time. I can't fully remember the pictures I have, I think they are of a butterfly, a bookmark, and maybe a snowflake. These are only small things, but fun to make. All three have been crocheted.
Below is the pineapple butterfly. I LOVED making this, and have plans on how to add some more colour.
Here is the snowflake I did. It took me a couple of attempts, I had trouble with interpreting the pattern; but, once I got wht the instructions meant, I found it quite easy.

I've finally got at least one picture of a cloth I recently knitted. This is an Entrelac cloth. It took me a couple of go's to get the hang of the instructions, but once I did, it was surprisingly easy to do. I'm really pleased with the way it has turned out. Ok, I have NOT been keeping this up. A bit like my knitting, actually. I start off full of good intentions, but soon forget all about those intentions. While I may not have been posting here, I HAVE been busy knitting, and other things.
My daughter has moved back home, and it's actually nice to have her back in the fold - so to speak. My son has a job, which is wonderful. It's full-time, and NOT dependent on the weather, which is even gooder - I know, not a proper word; but it fits.
I havae several photos that I need to get loaded on to here, and will do that over the next few days. When I get time, and when I remember. I have a computer course starting tomorrow. It's Computing Level 3, which covers, among other things, web design. I REALLY want to learn about web design.
So, this is rather short and sweet, I should be getting dressed, and doing a few things around the house. So will try to post again this week - no promises, though.

Winter is obviously on the way over here. Both my children have come down with bad throats. Natasha went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago, and Gareth is off to the doctor this afternoon. At least I can still get some knitting/crocheting done. I really need to concentrate on some of the things I wanted to get finished BEFORE winter arrived!!!! Not a lot of chance of THAT happening. Ahhhhhhhh well . . . there is always next winter. I really want my mohair coat for THIS winter, though. Guess that will be my next project to get off the needles - especially now that I have more of the wool wound up.

They say admission is good for you - or is that confession?!?!? Both I should think - although some would say it depends on what you are admitting to!!! My admission/confession is'nt bad - really.Well...I don't thinks it's a bad admission.
I have come to the conclusion that I am a really bad knitter. Sure all my work looks fine and dandy, the jerseys I make always fit the intended recipient, the patterns don't usually have mistakes. So...what makes me a bad knitter? Easy. I NEVER do a swatch!!!! Honest!!!! Never!!!! Well...hardly ever!!!! Almost never!!! Added to that, I DON'T keep the swatch on the rare - VERY rare - occassions that I DO do a swatch. I frog it, and use the wool for the intended project. So, why don't I do a swatch? Easy - again. My reason for NOT doing one, I know how I knit - I should, I've been doing it for a number of years now. I'm also in too much of a hurry to get the pattern started, so I can see what it looks like, and get something else started. Yes, I have MULTIPLE works on the needles at any one time. In fact, I'll go and buy needles if I haven't got any spare, rather than take something off the needles. I DO finish my works, ... eventually. Good thing they aren't usually for someone who is still growing, aye.

I promised I'd display a Kaffe Fassett coat that I knitted a few years ago. This was my introduction to Intarsia work, I never thought that it should be difficult, just a lot of work. This was also my introduction to Kaffe Fassett, I'd never heard of him before. I just knew that I loved the look of his patterns. I only wear this coat when it is really cold. I still need to get the right fabric and line the coat, I am just not sure what colour I will use, yet. I'm also not sure of what fabric to use. Maybe I'll just take the coat into the sewing shop, and ask them.

I have here my Gold Medal for the Knitting Olympics. It was interesting sticking to the one project for 16 whole days. I've not done that very often. Now to see if I can keep it up, and get a few of my UFO's out of the land of languishing knit-land.

My Olympic project is finished. I'm really pleased that I stayed with it for this long, and actually got it complete BEFORE the due date. I really do like this pattern. The pics are before I've blocked it, I've just left it, to enjoy the sight of a Finished Object.

My Knitting Olympics project

You know, at the rate things are going for me tonight, I'll get this scarf finished before I ever get this posted correctly!!!!! Golly better work this time!!! lol
I have made good progress on my scarf for the Knitting Olympics. The fact that I have stuck to it, and NOT started something else is great progress!!! Let's hope I can keep it up for the entire 16 days!!! Although it is less than 16, now. Did I say 16 days on only one project?!?!? I must be sick, or challanged, or something!!!!! Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the scarf in progress - at least, I HOPE here are a couple of pictures. Facing the right way this time!!!

I finally got my sock scarf finished tonight. I'm really pleased with the way it has turned out. I used Cleakheaton Tapestry Wool, and 5mm needles - two circs. I've finished it in time to start another scarf for the Knitting Olympics - this scarf is a pattern I have tweaked to turn into a scarf. It was a baby blanket pattern. So, of course, I have no idea of how much wool I will need for it. I don't even know how it will look as a scarf!!! Oh the fun!!! lol

I got some more things off the needles. I'm doing quite well this month. I need to get some pictures taken, though. The Tipsy Knitters socks are finally complete, and I've worn them. It's a really good pattern, but I think I'll make them longer next time.

I've also finished a seaman's scarf, from the Pattern a Day Calendar. IfI ever did this pattern again, I think I'd use bigger needles. I like the pattern, though. Will post pictures of both of these later - once I actually TAKE the picture!! lol

Here is a picture of the jersey that only took me two winters to complete. I made it for my DD, who is seen wearing the jersey. She picked out the wool, paid for it, too. It is an easy pattern, but I had other things on the needles - 'Im like that. This year I'm going to try and get some of my UFO'S completed.

This is what I am currently working on. It is from the Vivian Hoxbro book of Domino Knitting. It will be a throw/blanket thingy once I've finished it. It is working up fairly quickly, because the squares are only 29sts. I am using Ashford Tekapo, Double Knitting yarn for this, and 4.5mm needles. I like the way the colours are working together.

A Finished object - at last!!!

I have finally finished the jersey that I promised my DD two winters ago. At least I have finished it in time for her to wear when winter comes around this year. I am quite pleased with the way it has turned out. Next, I must try knitting one of these in the round, but not this particular pattern. I am even try something for DH, I HAVE promised him a jersey - designed my me!!!! Why did I ever volunteer to do that?!?!? I've NEVER designed ANYTHING in my life!!!!
Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the jersey. It was a very simple Aran pattern, done with 'Wanaka Station 10-ply'. Which is a New Zealand yarn, of course. My DD picked out the wool herself, as well as the pattern.

I thought it was time I posted here, haven't been in for a while. I've been busy trying to get some old UFO'S finished. I am concentrating on my daughter's jersey, that I promised her two winters ago. All I have left now is the neckband, which is actually on the needles, and then the sewing up. I find if I don't start the sewing up straight away, it will sit around again. I will get up a picture of the jersey once I actually have it totally finished.

Until Christmas that is. I am pretty laid back about Christmas this year. Both children are getting money, and something small. They are too old for me to be trying to sort out what to buy them as gifts. I had hoped to be able to make something this year, but none of my family seem to appreciate hand-made things as gifts. I don't think they realise all the work that actually goes into making things.

It's not that I need any more scarves, but these patterns are too nice NOT to do. I may well end up sending most of them to others. We shall see when I finally get some of them finished.

An FO!!

I finally finished my doily!!! This is the first time I've ever done a crochet chain cast off. It took a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of it, it was actually quite easy. Here are two pictures of the doily. The first one is before blocking - just off the needle/hook. The second picture is of it drying on the freezer.

What a difference blocking makes!!! On to the next project - my Kiri really needs some work on it. A very good friend of mine has lent me her 5.5mm long circular needles. A very big thank you, Donna, for that. I'm up to 6 repeats each side on my Kiri. Don't know how big I'll make it.

Here are a couple more pictures of work I"m doing. The multi coloured thing on the floor, is actually a baby blanket I'm putting together for someone. I am provided with the squares, and then I just do a DC(english term), around the outside of each square, then crochet slip-stitch them together. I'm trying to stick to a pattern with this blanket, and onlyhope I have enough of the colours to do the whole blanket. I think it will be a cot sized blanket, not sure, yet.
The other picture is of a scarf I've recently started. Yes, there are three balls!! It's going to be braided, once the three seperate pieces have beenknitted to the right length. Then, I shall do as a very good friend of mine suggested - thanks for that Donna - and I shall knit about 1" with the three joined - after I've braided them of course!! I think this one will be getting sent overseas, butnot sure, yet. I may decide I like it too much.
Although I won't be needing it until next winter. It being nice and hot, and summery over here.

And have no idea of how to make use of it!!! How's that for dumb?!?!? I'm supposed to add something to this site, but don't know how!!!!
I'm still working on the doily, not too far to go on it. It ends up with 600sts in total!!! That is gonna take me a while to work each round, I can tell you!!! I already have the next doily planned, though. It looks really nice, and will not be doing it in white.
I'm also putting together a baby blanket for someone. I get supplied the squares. I just need to put them together. Easy! Yeah right! Trying to come up with the right colour combinations, with bright pink, bright orange, and dark brown, and colours as opposite as those, is NOT an easy thing!!! Fun, though. I've actually got two of them to do. I will take a picture of the first one, once I've got a few more of the squares put together.

Some more work I've been doing

Here are a couple of pictures of a doily that I'm knitting. I've finally been able to get it on one circular needle. I started this doily on two circular needles, don't really like DPN's.

The first picture is a close up of the doily. It has been a challange for me, but well worth the effort. I already have another doily that I want to do. This next one is called 'Flowers in the Trees'.

and I've been busy knitting - again!!! Nothing new there.I ALWAYS have something on the needles, or the hooks if I'm in a crocheting mood. So, I have some more pictures to add here. This first one is of the Kiri I am doing, I need to get a good circular needle, and transfer it to the circ. The photo doesn't really do justice to the pattern, because the colour is a darker purple than it looks.

This next picture is of the first towel topper I did. I finished it yesterday. It's a knitted one, and I'm actually quite pleased with the way it looks.

I have finally finished something!!! I know that doesn't sound a lot, but when you realise that I am one of those people who am really great at starting, not so good at finishing. This is a scarf from Knitting.com. It's not as big as it could have been, because I didn't use the wool, or needles they specified in the pattern. Anyway, here is a picture of the scarf - if I can work out how to get the picture from the CD, first!! lol

Restarted my Kiri

Well...I restartedmy Kiri - again!!! This time I'm using 5.5mm needled, on some yarn that is a mystery to me. It is working on these needles, though. Now that I have the hang of how the pattern works, I will be able to move along quite well. I'll have to take a picture, and put up a progress photo.

Anyway, I', going to take some picture os some of the things I have on the needles, and start putting them up here for viewing. I'm NOT going to photograph ALL the things I have going, as there are just way too many!!! I start things quite happily, just finishing them, and NOT starting anything new is my problem!! lol There are just too many patterns that I need to try, and not enough time to do them all, so Ifigure if I start some of them, I might eventually get them finished. Sounds good to me, anyway. :)
Now I'm going to see if I remember how to put up a picture. This one will be of my daughter on the occasion of her 21st birthday, which was in August of this year.

I'd almost forgotten I even had this blog. Nobody reads it, anyway, so it don't really matter. My daughter moves out after work today. I am really going to miss her, but I know she is ready for this. At least, she isn't moving out of town, or out of the country!!!! That has got to be good!!!
I finally have a memory card for my digital camera, so will now be able to take more photos, especially of my knitting, and crocheting. Then I may even be able to post some of them up here, to make this look more interesting.
Now off to learn how to add this to my signature, when I post on the groups I'm in.

Got some wood

We finally were able to get some wood for the fire. It is so much nicer having the fire going than the gas heater. I finished a really nice scarf, don't know who this will go to. I need to take a picture of it. I used 9mm needles, and the yarn is called Moa. It is a cheap one from The Warehouse. I like it, and have started another, but this time I'm using 10mm needles, and 20sts. This one may be for me, I don't know yet. Will see once it is finished. I'm also working on some 10" squares that are finished with a round of black. These are crochted, and for a swap I've joined.
Now I need to learn how to add this blog to my emails. I know it can be done, I just am not sure how to do it!!! Silly aye.

Finished at last

I finally got some socks completed. I have knitted a pair of baby socks, in green 4-ply Perendale, which were really easy. Then I finally got the second sock finished of a pair for my daughter. These were made from Patonyle, self-patterning. They look really nice, even if I do say so myself. I just have to work out how to add pictures to this blog. Don't know how to do that, yet.

Okay, here's hoping I'm doing this right. I need to learn how to upload photos, to make this a more interesting place to come to. Gotta GET some photos first, though. I have finished a cloth that I have given to my son for his car. I knitted it on 9mm needles, and used a strand of WILD COTTON, and a strand of some cotton I got from a jersey I'd unpicked. It's a white cloth, but that's okay, the used cotton isn't really any good for anything else.
I've also finally started a mystery stole that I'm doing as part of a KAL. I'm doing it in a lovely blue 4ply Perendale, and on 4.5mm needles. I really like this colour, and so far the pattern is behaving itself.
I'm also knitting a shawl from A Gathering of Lace. This is also coming out really nice. Once I get a memory card for my camera, I will take some progress pics, and get them posted here.

Okay, this is a first for me. NO pictures, yet. Gotta give me a chance. I need to explore this world of an online diary, and see just how much of myself I want to expose. This is supposed to be about my attempts to get my UFP's and WIP's under control. I love starting new patterns, but, have trouble finishing them. I also suffer SSS, which needs some working on. Joining a sock group is no help, 'cos it just causes me to have more single socks!!!! But.............I've joined two - or is it three - sock groups. I have no idea of what I'm doing here, so will just ifnish this first post here, and go and do some more knitting on a wrap that I really should have finished months ago, as it is already winter here in New Zealand.
